A review of Adrian Garcia Bogliano's 2012 film, Here Comes the Devil.

By Cynthia Rzucidlo The Magnet release film, Here Comes the Devil (2012), was written and directed by Adrian Garcia Bogliano. Here Comes the Devil, originally titled Ahi Va el Diablo, debuted at eleven different film festivals, such as the Monsters of Film Festival in Stockholm and the Toronto International Film Festival, before being released onto DVD in December, 2013. The film’s writer/director, Bogliano, has written and directed several horror films, specifically Spanish films; until being invited to direct his own segment for the American, anthology classic The ABC’s of Death (2012). Bogliano is slowly but surely making a name for himself within the horror genre and Here Comes the Devil

Review of The Houses October Built (2014)

By Cynthia Rzucidlo The Houses October Built (2014) directed by Bobby Roe, is a limited release film from Room 101 productions who’s also responsible for films such as Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013) and The Devil Inside (2012), as well as the majority of the Paranormal Activity films. I found the synopsis of the film extremely intriguing and although I’d seen the film advertised on several different niche horror mediums such as “Fangoria,” I’d yet to come across anyone who’d actually screened it. Now, I know why. This film had a perfectly interesting plot, one which could have been made into a terrifying or, at the very least, entertaining horror film. This story will keep you guessing until the end; you will laugh, cry, and scream.

By Ashley Bartko That’s right the title screams it! Horns (2014) is now available to view and enjoy on Netflix. This film was directed by Alexandre Aja who is known for his work on films such as The Hills Have Eyes (2006), Mirrors (2008) and High Tension (2003). Frederick Elmes whose cinematography work on the films Brothers (2009) and Hulk (2003), collaborates his cinematography with Alexandre Aja’s vision for this mysterious and dark tale. The horror-fantasy-comedy genre is represented artfully and skillfully throughout the entirety of the film with the use of masterful cinematography and awe inspiring art direction. The film is loosely based on the novel “Horns” written by Joe Hill whos

See Contracted on IFC Midnight!

By Cynthia Rzucidlo Contracted (2014), written and directed by Eric England, is an IFC Midnight film which was released in March of 2014. IFC Midnight films are targeted toward a more niche market rather than a broad audience, the content of their films tend to be more disturbing and provocative; and Contracted is a perfect testament to that! With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, this film offers an original, stomach-turning story for the anti-romantic. The film starts off with a man having sex with a corpse on a hospital gurney. The audience is only shown enough to speculate what is happening in order to keep the man’s identity a mystery. We’re then introduced to the main character

By Cynthia Rzucidlo Box office and horror hit Annabelle (2014), directed by John R. Leonetti and starring Ward Horton and Annabelle Wallis, was finally released onto Blu-ray and DVD on January 27, 2015. The Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack contains special features such as deleted scenes, the true story of the Annabelle curse and a featurette on the making of the film. Annabelle was one of the most heavily advertised horror films of 2014, in wide-release and mainstream cinema. The spin-off sister-film to the Conjuring (2013) directed by James Wan, promised to be one of the most frightening films in years. However, mainstream horror films tend not to be as macabre or disturbing as fans would like to s
